Abstract

Buildings are one of the contributors to energy consumption in urban areas. Inadequate building planning and design can increase thermal loads and energy demand, including in residential buildings. One approach to optimizing energy performance is through facade design, which can be evaluated using the Overall Thermal Transfer Value (OTTV). This study aims to identify the OTTV value of a Type 59 residential house, representing a small residential unit in a housing complex. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through documentation and direct measurements of facade elements, including walls, openings, and the materials used. The data were then processed through OTTV calculations to determine heat transfer through the building envelope. The calculation results indicate an OTTV value of 24.04 W/m². This value indicates relatively good thermal performance of the building envelope based on the applicable OTTV standards, thereby supporting the control of heat gain from the external environment. Therefore, this study provides an initial overview of the thermal performance of the facade of a small Type 59 residential house, serving as a basis for evaluating the building envelope to support residential planning that is more responsive to thermal comfort requirements.
